'To rein a horse is not only to guide him, but also control his every movement. The best reined horse should be willingly guided or controlled with little or no apparent resistance and dictated to completely.'

Founded in 1966, the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA), based in Oklahoma USA, is a nonprofit association dedicated to promoting and encouraging the development of and public interest in the sport of reining. The focus is on developing and maintaining suitable standards of performance and judging and in providing a fun filled, family-oriented atmosphere. It serves as the standard setting body for the sport of Reining worldwide.

In 1989 the first reining horse association, known as NRHA Australia, was established in Australia by electing the first Board in Tamworth. In the same year the first Futurity was held in Whittlesea, Victoria. Later the name was changed into Reining Australia. Reining Australia hosts many exciting Reining Events around the country and is dedicated to the promotion of the reining horse in Australia.
